Investment Studio > Views > Assets > Managing assets
The toolbar in the Assets Grid (not to be confused with the view's toolbar) sports the standard Grid toolbar controls, plus a button group used to add and delete assets
![]()
and an extra button in the setup group, used to toggle null asset listing on and off:
![]()
The buttons perform the following functions:
| New. Click to
add one or more assets to the portfolio. If an asset is
selected in the Grid, the new assets will be inserted
after the selected asset. If no asset is selected, the
new assets will be appended after existing assets. Clicking New opens a pop-up menu offering the choice between constant and variable asset price:
Click anywhere outside the pop-up menu to abort. Click Constant price to create an asset record with constant price = 1. This is the appropriate choice for cash positions, e.g. a bank account (1 USD is always worth 1 USD). Constant price records are created with blank asset properties (name, symbol, currency). Enter those in the Grid afterwards. Click Variable price... to open the Quotes dialog and select one or more quote sources from the available download items: |

| The dialog displays the same information
and supports the same sorting and selection operations as
the Downloads view. Click the column headers to sort by
column content, click again to reverse the sort order;
right-click for a Find (by name) dialog. To select
multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking
them. To select a contiguous range of items, select the
item at one end of the range, then hold down the Shift
key while clicking the item at the other end of the range. Click OK to add
a new asset record to the portfolio for each selected
quote source. Each new asset will inherit name, symbol
and currency from its quote source. Click |
|
| Delete. Click to
remove one or more assets from the portfolio, including
all transactions in the asset(s). Quote files are not
affected by asset deletion. If an asset is selected, you will be presented with a confirmation menu:
Click the top menu item to confirm deletion of the selected asset. Alternatively, choose Pick... for a list of all assets in the portfolio:
Click the column headers to sort by column content, click again to reverse the sort order. To select multiple assets, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking them. To select a contiguous range of assets, select the asset at one end of the range, then hold down the Shift key while clicking the asset at the other end of the range. Click OK
to delete the selected assets from the portfolio. Click |
|
| Null assets.
When this button is depressed, all assets in the
portfolio are listed in the Grid. Otherwise, only assets
which are held (long or short) at the end of the date
range specified in the view's toolbar are listed. An asset is considered "null" (i.e. not held) if abs(asset units) < 0.001. |
The Grid's toolbar (or individual control groups in it) may be hidden using the Toolbar submenu in the Grid's pop-up menu, but functional equivalents are always available in the same menu:
