Investment Studio > Objects

Most Investment Studio views are based on a set of building blocks commonly referred to as objects. The recurrence of these objects in different views simplifies your work by presenting you with a consistent interface throughout Investment Studio.

The Grid object is essentially a database viewer and editor. Depending on the view, each database record may describe a portfolio, an asset or a transaction.
Grids are "master" objects: if a view contains a Grid (there is never more than one) then actions performed in the Grid (e.g. selecting a record) may affect all other objects in the same view.
Chart objects display time series data (e.g. quotes) in the customary line or candlestick forms of technical analysis.
Graph objects display functions of an arbitrary variable, i.e. not necessarily time. For instance, the distribution of a share's daily relative price variation would be a graph of frequency over percentage.
Browser objects display web pages and documents stored on your hard drive.
Notes objects are used to enter and edit free-format text (typically comments and reminders).

In the Portfolios, Assets, Quotes and Web views, objects are hosted by tiles which can be sized and moved around freely to customize each view's layout.

Some views (Macros, Downloads) also have their own special objects. Such objects are described in their view's documentation.
