If the selected portfolio contains only one asset, or if the Grid is set to display transactions in a single asset, a new transaction record for that asset will be added to the Grid and selected. You can then proceed to modify the new transaction record as usual.
If the selected portfolio contains more than one asset and the Grid is set to display all transactions, you will be presented with a list of all assets in the portfolio:

The list can be sorted alphabetically by Name, Symbol or Currency (to do so, click the column headers; click again to reverse the sort order) and assets can also be located by name using a standard Find dialog (right-click the list, then use Find).
Select one or more assets (for multiple selections, click each asset while pressing the Ctrl key; to select a range, click its boundary elements while pressing the Shift key) and click OK. A new transaction record will be added to the Grid for each selected asset. Proceed to modify the new transaction record(s) as usual.

creating new transaction records, click

Modifying an existing transaction
The Grid in the Transactions view is used to expose fields in the portfolio's transaction table. For such fields to be editable, they must (1) not be intrinsically read-only and (2) map to editable Grid cells. Note that transaction numbers are intrinsically read-only. Whether the second condition is fulfilled depends entirely on the Grid's record definition.
| Autocomplete mode (Auto > Complete checked in the Grid's pop-up menu) and the First quote command (Auto > First quote in the pop-up menu) can cause transaction date, quantity, principal value and fees to change even if they are marked as read-only or not even exposed in the Transactions Grid. |
Two important transaction properties which can not be edited are asset and currency. Each transaction is assigned to an asset when the transaction record is created, and this assignment is permanent; there is no way to change it later. Should the need arise, delete the offending transaction, then enter a new one from scratch. There is also no independent "transaction currency" which can be modified for individual transactions. All transaction values and fees are expressed in the asset's currency.
Since each transaction record describes flows into and out of a single asset, the complete description of what most people would call a "transaction" - the exchange of an asset for another one - requires at least two transaction records.
See the list of Transaction types for details on all built-in transaction table fields which may be exposed in the Grid.
